Frequently Asked Questions
- Is there a probation period for new members before they can participate in
any club event?
NO. You are welcome to attend any and all club events. Remember to sign the clubs “Hold
Harmless” attendance form.
- Is there a probation period before a new member becomes a voting
member?
NO. If your application has been reviewed, you were voted in as a new member and if your
dues are paid in full there is no probation period before being permitted to vote on club issues.
- What do I need to bring to a Club event?
You are required to bring your own Safety Glasses and wear your membership card on a
lanyard. Other suggested items are: hearing protection, lighting device, hard hat and non-
flammable clothing. You may bring any product to shoot. If you have 1.3 items you must have
a BATF license. If you have anything modified or homemade, it must be approved by the Safety
and Security Officer on site.
- I have a Family membership, what does that allow me and my family to do?
With a Family membership, you are only entitled to 1 vote at meetings on club issues. Family
members may attend all meetings and participate in all club events. Family members under
18 years of age may use consumer or 1.4 products, under your direct supervision. No Family
member under 18 is permitted to use or handle 1.3 products, under any circumstance. Family
members under 18 can help with set-up and clean-up of racks as long as no 1.3 is loaded. All
Family members must use all required safety gear. All family members under the age of 18
must be accompanied by an adult on all shoot sites and must be signed in on the Hold Harmless
by the accompanying adult only.
- Can I bring a guest to a Club event?
Yes. Guests are welcome at any club event. If a guest comes with you more than a few times,
encourage them to join. You are responsible for your guest. All guests as well as members, must
wear safety glasses and must sign in on the “Hold Harmless” attendance form.
- How soon after joining, can I be a lead a shooter at a club event?
As long as you are a member in good standing, have the required PGI Safety Shooter
Certification and attend club events, you can be a lead shooter.
- How soon can I use or take advantage of the Clubs Insurance?
You must be member in good standing for a minimum of 2 years, have had the PGI Safety
Shooter Certification, attend club events and be approved by the Insurance Coordinator and or
Club Officers.
- What are the requirements to use the Clubs Insurance?
See above. By attending club events, you can demonstrate your knowledge and safe use
of all Pyrotechnics, knowledge of plot plans, permit requirements and other local issues,
equipment and crew needed, public safety requirements and club rules. By attending club
events, you are considered an “Active” member.
- What are the Club requirements to maintain “member in good standing”?
(What are the participation requirements?)
None. Remember you get out of the club what you put into it. The more you attend and help
at Club events the more the Club can help you. Officers and other members need to see that
you know how to handle product and that you know what you are doing.
- Does the Club have equipment to loan?
Yes. The Club has guns, mortars, and racks and other equipment to lend. Again you must be
a member in good standing. You will be responsible for all transportation and any damage that
you do to the equipment. Check with the Equipment Coordinator for more info. To use any 1.3
equipment you must have a BATF license
- How can I be appointed or elected to be on the Board of Directors?
See By-Laws
- How can I host a club event?
Contact the Clubs Shoot Site Coordinator.
- What do I need to have a club event?
You should provide drinking water and restrooms for all attending members. Other items to
consider: food, shelter, meeting place and parking. These items are just suggested but it is very
nice to make members welcome and comfortable.
- What can or does the Club do for me.
Your club supports the safe use of all types of Fireworks. The club can help you with
information on obtaining your BATF license and what is needed for your magazine. The Club can
provide guidance for shows and events. Remember, the club has access to other organizations,
government and legal consultants if you would happen to have a pyrotechnic problem. The
Club provides a safe place for you to enjoy your hobby safely. As an “Active” member, you have
access to other “Active” members’ display companies and vendors. These companies look for
club members that are willing to help with displays, demo nights and other events.
- Who is in charge?
Safety and Security Officers handle the shoot site and are in charge of all members and their
guests and they have the final say. If you disagree with anything that day of the event, you
may bring the issue up at next meeting. This will allow a cool down period for each side. Please
contact the Sec./Treas. to be added to the next meeting agenda.
- As a member what other advantages are there for me?
Many vendors offer membership discounts. (Show your membership card.) Also, see #14
above “What can or does the club do for me?”
- Can I participate in Club shows or other Club members shows that use the
Club’s insurance, even if I do not have much experience?
Yes. These are very good places for you to learn new skills and are a safe shoot site set up.
All shows using the Club’s insurance are open to members. However, you must contact the lead
shooter or the Club member responsible for doing the show, for information. If you wish to work
these events or shows, do be prepared to actually work a show. Take your personal protective
equipment needed to work.
- Can I post information to the “web” or on the internet about the Club?
Anything you post about meetings, open shoots and shows must be approved by the Club’s
officers. This is done for everyone’s protection. By putting anything on the internet, it opens our
events to just about anyone. We really do not want the general public at our meetings as we
do not know them or anything about them, i.e. who they are, what they do, how they act, who
they report to, etc. This is why our applications are not available on line. If you want to post
something on line, check with any officer first.
- Can I purchase 1.3 product on or with the Club’s BATF license?
No, as you must be licensed to purchase and use 1.3 product. If you are having a show and
need 1.3 product, either a licensed club member can purchase it and control it’s use, or the Club
can purchase it and have a Club representative as listed on the Club license, take responsibility
for it and control it. It must be used the day of the shoot and items not used will need to have
alternate arrangements made for its safe storage, per regulations.
- I am new at this and have many questions and concerns. Who and how
do I get answers?
Contact any officer by e-mail, snail mail, phone or in person at any event. Keep in mind,
your questions may be a short sentence but the answer may require a much more in-depth
explanation. So, if you e-mail a question you still may need to talk to someone for further
explanation or clarity. Remember, at a show or open shoot, it may take more time to discuss
your questions. All officers will answer any of your questions or concerns and if they don’t know
the answer, they probably know the person you need to talk to that does.
